God bless America but What went wrong with our constitution?

Marshall, who favored a strong central government and weakening of state governments, took advantage of a lame duck Federalist congress and a departing John Adams (both of whom also favored a strong federal government) to use the 1804 Marsbury v. Madison decision to claim that only the Supreme court had the right to decide what was constitutional (they did not have that 'right' prior). And when he took office, Jefferson did little to wrest control back.
